Event Schedule:

Friday, July 25th
Spend the night and camp for the weekend. CJ has arranged for a port-a-potty to be on-site.

Saturday, July 26th:
10:00 AM: Ready to Ride Time
2:00 PM: Potluck with the Club providing hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings. Members, please bring a dish to share. Spouses are welcome and can ride too, or just come up and party!

Competition Details
To make the competition go faster than in 2024, we plan to divide the ride into two groups.

Judges will ride the half of the trail that has their assigned obstacles, so they can practice judging. We would really like members to give the obstacles a try so the judges can learn what to expect. Judges, participating will truly benefit you!

Judges on North end: Obstacles #3, #4, #5, #6, #7 (longer ride – about 7 miles; these riders will leave camp first).
Judges on South end: Obstacles #1, #2, #8, #9, #10 (shorter ride – about 5 miles; these riders will leave camp second).

Please contact Brenda Burge at (970) 210-9409 and let her know if you are planning to camp, ride, or just come for the potluck.

Please contact Brenda AGAIN even if you had already signed up for the earlier date. Brenda is the Trail Boss and needs to know how many people to expect, which also helps with purchasing the meat.

Here are your choices:

  • Coming up to camp on July 25th, July 26th, or both?
  • Coming just to ride on July 26th.
  • Coming up just to eat on July 26th.

Bring your signed registration and waiver forms, and payment (cash/check) with you to the ride on August 9th.

Saturday August 23 – Black Ride @ Tater Heap 
Where: West Elk Wilderness, Crawford
Level: Black Ride, 15 miles – 7 hours, Horse & Rider Must be FIT, First 7 miles is approx. 3000 foot elevation gain

Program: Tack Swap – set up @ 6, swap starts at 6:30pm (tables provided)
Bring your used tack to sell and trade.   New and gently used items can be donated to the Club for a silent auction table.
Business meeting starts at 8pm.

Fun Night – Friday 9/5 – Hotchkiss Fairgrounds, covered arena.
Pot luck starting at 4pm.  The Club will provide ribs from Zack’s.  Please bring a dish to share.
Games and costume parade start at 5-5:30pm.  The theme is Extraterrestrial Equines.
Bring a broomstick (w/o broom), a 4-6 inch sieve or mesh strainer.
Friends and family are welcome to join us.  Only members can participate in the games.

RIDE CANCELLATION:
After some consideration, we’ve decided to cancel the ride planned for Saturday, September 6th at Bridgeport TH.  With the Fun Night the evening before, we felt that two club events back-to-back might be a bit much.  We’ll be looking to reschedule a ride in this beautiful area for sometime in October, so keep an eye out for details.

Thursday-Saturday 9 /19-9/21- Horse Camping Dance Hall Cabin Grand Mesa –  Flowing Park Rd. Weather Permitting. 
Exact camp location will be determined based on availability of camping spots.

Saturday 9/20/25 Color Ride – September Birthday Ride – Grand Mesa – Flowing Park Road.  
Trail Head location will be determined by Thursday 9/18 based on availability.

Saturday October 4: Blue Lake  &  West Elk Challenge
Level: Black Ride, Horses and riders must be fit for either ride
–Blue Lake = 15 miles – 6+ hours, Trail Boss = Juleen (970 985-1182)
–West Elk is 5+ miles 4 hour cheering on runners (6 rider maximum), Trail Boss = Cynthia Hines (970) 201-8671

Tuesday October 7 Activity: Ladies Night Out
Venue: Sips on Main in Cedaredge
Time: October 7, 6pm
Details: Reservations must be made by September 23
Entree Choices:  Petite Filet Mignon, Salmon Cakes, Roasted Butternut Ricotta Gnocchi
Dessert:  Key Lime Pie or Chocolate Cherry Tiramisu

  2. Please review Our Guide to a Safe & Enjoyable Trail Ride. Here you will find everything you need to know about how we grade the ride with regard to technical difficulty and lots of information to keep you and your horse safe, happy and have fun.
  3. If you are not a member, you will need to fill out our WSCSC Trail Rider Waiver as well as the Colorado Waiver.
